A small town that was running up for the consideration of being named the Capitol of Beautiful Montana State. With being the second oldest town in the state of Montana, this beautiful place holds incredible history. In fact, there are many artifacts and museums to see, to include the old Montana State Prison which opened in 1878 and closed 1979 from being overcrowded.
Fun Fact: On February 2, 1865 the first legislature of Montana Territory created nine counties of which Deer Lodge was one. The county seat was established at Silver Bow and changed to Deer Lodge City December 10, 1867.
